The autumn of 2006 was marked by the submission of the Socioeconomic diagnosis of the
Haut-Saint-François MRC. The report contained several observations on the socioeconomic situation
in the MRC, but even more importantly it proposed a concrete plan of action. Organizations and participants
from diverse sectors were mobilised to form a follow-up committee to ensure the implementation of the
action plan. The Forum on new possibilities in forestry is one of the activities proposed by the follow-up
committee. One of the highlights of the diagnosis report was the forestry potential in the Haut-Saint-François
MRC, and during this event, participants will explore new and interesting possibilities in forestry.

The Forum is intended to be a unifying and dynamic activity, geared to stimulate reflection and discussion. The Forum’s main objectives are:

• To initiate a process of reflection on the future of forestry resources in our MRC, taking
  into account the current economic context.
• To maximise an innovative and sustainable use of the forest in the Haut-Saint-François region.
• To establish the bases of an action plan for the long-term use of forestry resources.
